Final Project

The Final project is now available to be submitted. The due date is Thursday, Dec 10th, by 11:59pm. The requirements of the final should come as no surprise as I have mentioned the requirements for the final in the previous announcement. You should have your models complete, all that is left is to put them together and submit them. Please review the required submission materials in the Final Project folder located in the Assignments.

Required Assignments

Finding alternative assignments has been more difficult than I expected. Most internet alternatives have started out great but after 45 minutes of work they start to become about as clear as the book...not good. So here is the decision that I have made:

1. Assignments that are NOT required are 3.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1. These are the book assignments that the majority of the class have not completed. If you have completed any of these assignments I will be contacting you individually to talk about this.

2. I will find tutorials that will help you learn how to do the techniques as soon as I can find a good one but they will be there for your benefit but will not be required.

3. The rest of the semester we will be working on your final. Use the project assignments (4.2, 5.2, 6.2) as a way of completing your final early. Each of these pieces will be required for your final anyway so make it easy on yourself and create things you can use in your final scene.

If you have any questions about this EMAIL ME DIRECTLY marc.tucker@cpcc.edu because no one else will be able to answer your questions. I apologize for all the inconvenience but we will get through this and you WILL have the resources you will need to move on. Thank you all for your patience.

READ CAREFULLY

I have 3 very important announcments. Please read carefully.

1. All assignments that were not submitted as Archive files were cleared and can now be submitted correctly. If you see a blank spot in your gradebook for something you submitted, it was not submitted as an archive file and needs to be resubmitted as such. Please do so ASAP. From now on, any files not submitted as Archives will be counted as a "0" and you will need to contact me directly to ask for an opportunity to resubmit.

2. The book. I believe the content and techniques used in the book are very good for the type of modeling that we want to do. But the method in which the author teaches it is not. So, I am currenlty working on finding other resources that are teaching the same techniques but in a better way. Please stick with me as I attempt to do this. The assignments will not change so if you feel that you can continue with the book you may do so. If you have given up I will be providing alternative assignments to the ones in the book.

3. Free Models. I am changing the themes for the free model assignments. I plan on making them a little more vague so that you can have a little more freedom on your final. Look for theses changes soon.

File Submissions

I have begun grading and have noticed 1 major problem. The majority of you have submitted only the 3DS Max file. I will consider that my fault at the moment because I should have made it more clear. But what I would like for you to do is Archive your assignments and send that. To do this in 3DS Max 2009 just click on File > Archive, 3DS Max 2010, click File (icon at top) > Save As > Archive. It will save your file as a ".zip" and it will contain your model and ALL of your materials. I will then be able to see more than a grey shape which will probably be more enjoyable for me as I will not begin to think I am color blind. Once again I apologize for not making this clear.

I am unable to grade your previous assignments without the materials. So you will need to resubmit those file as well. If you did not submit an archive file or Render File prior to this post I will be clearing your attempt so you can submit the Archive file instead. Please CHECK YOUR GRADEBOOK. Thanks.

Another Autodesk option

I was just informed today that Autodesk may be releasing a 6 month trail version of Autodesk 2010 products. If this is the case it will happen in September. If you have already purchase the 13 month license I am sorry, Autodesk did not tell us this when we asked at the beginning of the semester what other options there were. We were just told. If you haven't purchased the program yet your 30 day trail my run out prior to the release of the 6 month trail. If that happens, I will allow a short extention on any assignments due during this short time. It shouldn't be longer then a week or two. New updates soon.
