My name is Marc Tucker. I am your instructor. This course provides a look into the advanced topics of 3d Modeling. Topics include Character, Environment and Vehicle modeling as well as render analysis and portfolio creation. Please read the following information carefully.

Online Course Orientation

Online students are strongly encouraged to complete one of CPCC’s Distance Learning Student Orientation sessions. Online orientation information is available on the Distance Learning website. You can access this website by clicking on the STUDENT RESOURSES button on the left menu. Online courses are very popular among our students, largely because they are perceived as being more convenient. A few words of caution: if you do not have continuous access to a working computer, if you are not computer literate or if you have difficulty working independently on course material, I strongly suggest that you consider withdrawing from the online section of this course. Students who are hard-working, self-disciplined and have ready access to the required technology typically do well in online courses. Others do not do well.If you have any questions or concerns about the technological aspects of this course, please call CPCC's Information Technology Services (ITS) at 704 330 5000.

Contacting the Instructor

If at any time during the semester you have questions about course material or concerns about your progress, please contact me. The best way to reach me is via email. I check my email several times a day and reply promptly. Be sure to email me through Blackboard (click on the COMMUNICATION button on the left side of the screen) and to include the course number and section number in the subject line of every email you send to me. Failure to email me through Blackboard or to include the required information in the subject line of your emails will result in my being unable to respond to your emails. You may also come and see me during my office hours. My office is located on CPCC’s Central Campus – fifth floor, room 5118. Please click on the INSTRUCTOR button on the left side of the screen for information regarding my office hours. You may also contact me via telephone at 704 330 6894.

Announcements

Please check Announcements frequently. I will post important information, updates and reminders in Announcements throughout the semester.

Assignments

The ASSIGNMENTS button (located on the left side of the main page) is the most important tool bar in this site. Click on Assignments to learn about the modules (units of study) we'll be covering in this course, as well as specific assignments for each module.

Course Calendar

Click on the COURSE CALENDAR button (located on the left side of the main page) to learn which modules will be covered when. Information concerning exams and assignment due dates may also be included in the course calendar. To be successful in this course, you'll need to follow the course calendar and be careful not to fall behind.

Discussion Board

Click on the DISCUSSION BOARD button (located on the left side of the main page) to access the Discussion Board. The Discussion Board will provide opportunities for you to discuss topics related to the course and to receive feedback from your fellow students and your instructor.

First Assignment

Here’s your first assignment. By Sunday, Aug 23 at 11:59 p.m. you will need to do the following:

1. Explore this Blackboard site.
2. Click on all of the tool bars (located on the left side of the main page) to become familiar with the structure of the course. If you have any technical questions, please contact Distance Learning or Instructional Technology Services.
3. Obtain a CPCC Snap Account if you do not already have one (contact ITS for more information).
4. Complete a Distance Learning Student Orientation.
5. To complete this assignment:
a. Click on the SYLLABUS button on the left side of the screen.
b. Read the complete syllabus carefully.
c. After having read and understood the entire syllabus, click on the ASSIGNMENTS button on the left menu, click on “Do This First” and complete all stated activities. Failure to complete this assignment by Sunday, Aug 23 at 11:59 p.m. may result in your being dropped from the course.

Once again, the best way to communicate with me is via email. Please make sure that you always include the course number and section number in the subject line when sending me an email. I’m looking forward to working with you this semester. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Have a great semester!

MarcMarc Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10795200904307890046noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4090677452305001782.post-25269858186218904032009-12-08T13:44:00.001-08:002009-12-08T13:44:40.068-08:00Registration
Please register for Spring 2010 courses as soon as possible.
If you need me to remove any blocks for you, please send me an email, including your student ID. The due date is Thursday, Dec 10th, by 11:59pm. The requirements of the final should come as no surprise as I have mentioned the requirements for the final in the previous announcement. You should have your models complete, all that is left is to put them together and submit them. Please review the required submission materials in the Final Project folder located in the Assignments.Marc Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10795200904307890046noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4090677452305001782.post-8291511254318046332009-10-22T08:04:00.000-07:002009-10-22T08:37:34.811-07:00Required AssignmentsFinding alternative assignments has been more difficult than I expected. Most internet alternatives have started out great but after 45 minutes of work they start to become about as clear as the book...not good. So here is the decision that I have made:

1. Assignments that are NOT required are 3.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1. These are the book assignments that the majority of the class have not completed. If you have completed any of these assignments I will be contacting you individually to talk about this.

2. I will find tutorials that will help you learn how to do the techniques as soon as I can find a good one but they will be there for your benefit but will not be required.

3. The rest of the semester we will be working on your final. Use the project assignments (4.2, 5.2, 6.2) as a way of completing your final early. Each of these pieces will be required for your final anyway so make it easy on yourself and create things you can use in your final scene.

If you have any questions about this EMAIL ME DIRECTLY marc.tucker@cpcc.edu because no one else will be able to answer your questions. I apologize for all the inconvenience but we will get through this and you WILL have the resources you will need to move on. Thank you all for your patience.Marc Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10795200904307890046noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4090677452305001782.post-64093593167522684762009-09-14T08:40:00.000-07:002009-09-14T08:51:24.046-07:00READ CAREFULLYI have 3 very important announcments. Please read carefully.

1. All assignments that were not submitted as Archive files were cleared and can now be submitted correctly. If you see a blank spot in your gradebook for something you submitted, it was not submitted as an archive file and needs to be resubmitted as such. Please do so ASAP. From now on, any files not submitted as Archives will be counted as a "0" and you will need to contact me directly to ask for an opportunity to resubmit.

2. The book. I believe the content and techniques used in the book are very good for the type of modeling that we want to do. But the method in which the author teaches it is not. So, I am currenlty working on finding other resources that are teaching the same techniques but in a better way. Please stick with me as I attempt to do this. The assignments will not change so if you feel that you can continue with the book you may do so. If you have given up I will be providing alternative assignments to the ones in the book.

3. Free Models. I am changing the themes for the free model assignments. I plan on making them a little more vague so that you can have a little more freedom on your final. Look for theses changes soon.Marc Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10795200904307890046noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4090677452305001782.post-52264248135180016212009-09-03T20:29:00.001-07:002009-09-03T20:29:56.167-07:00Game TestersThose of you who are interested may like to participate in this. Just follow the link below.
http://playstation.innovyx.net/v?xlvHvlnEHWcPcHPTvWJvMarc Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10795200904307890046noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4090677452305001782.post-43051028223053542112009-08-31T16:37:00.000-07:002009-08-31T16:45:26.963-07:00File SubmissionsI have begun grading and have noticed 1 major problem. The majority of you have submitted only the 3DS Max file. I will consider that my fault at the moment because I should have made it more clear. But what I would like for you to do is Archive your assignments and send that. To do this in 3DS Max 2009 just click on File > Archive, 3DS Max 2010, click File (icon at top) > Save As > Archive. It will save your file as a ".zip" and it will contain your model and ALL of your materials. I will then be able to see more than a grey shape which will probably be more enjoyable for me as I will not begin to think I am color blind. Once again I apologize for not making this clear.

I am unable to grade your previous assignments without the materials. So you will need to resubmit those file as well. If you did not submit an archive file or Render File prior to this post I will be clearing your attempt so you can submit the Archive file instead. Please CHECK YOUR GRADEBOOK. Thanks.Marc Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10795200904307890046noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4090677452305001782.post-47059947455541471672009-08-30T13:44:00.000-07:002009-08-30T13:51:24.549-07:00Another Autodesk optionI was just informed today that Autodesk may be releasing a 6 month trail version of Autodesk 2010 products. If this is the case it will happen in September. If you have already purchase the 13 month license I am sorry, Autodesk did not tell us this when we asked at the beginning of the semester what other options there were. We were just told. If you haven't purchased the program yet your 30 day trail my run out prior to the release of the 6 month trail. If that happens, I will allow a short extention on any assignments due during this short time. It shouldn't be longer then a week or two. New updates soon.Marc Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10795200904307890046noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4090677452305001782.post-26340481626095009112009-08-27T13:10:00.000-07:002009-08-27T13:11:56.836-07:00Discussion BoardsThis is the second announcment I have posted today, don't miss the Lab Assistants post just below this one.
